While pandas are a huge attraction in Chengdu, there is way more to see than just them. If the cosy shopping streets and traditional restaurants are not enough for you, we compiled a list of our  favourite places in Chengdu for you to explore – or something to show your friends and family when they want to visit!

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

There is no way that you can start these recommendations without the giant Pandas. It is the thing that first comes to mind for most people when they think of Chengdu, and it is definitely worth a visit (or two!). The Research Base is very close to the city centre of Chengdu, and one of the best and easiest ways to see the amazing animals from up close. It is open from 7:30 am to 6 pm, and the entrance fee is 58 Yuan.

Sanxingdui Museum

The Sanxingdui Museum is located a bit further outside of the city, but that does not make it any less worth a visit. Most of its ancient relics were unearthed close to the museum at the “Three-Stars Piles. This site was an important find for people in this region to understand the ancient history of Chengdu and Sichuan. The entrance fee is 80 Yuan.

Botanical Garden

Many cities have at least some kind of park or botanical garden, but the one in Chengdu is especially interesting. For only 10 Yuan you get a lot of different gardens with special plants and trees – the botanical garden in Chengdu even has an experimental part, where new plants are grown and breed!

Chengdu Teddy Bear Museum

A little more exotic, but the Teddy Bear Museum is worth a visit too; here you can see different parts of Chinese history and ancient myths, all recreated with the help of Teddy Bears! Even the seven Wonders of the World are recreated in the museum. It is easily worth the 60 Yuan entrance fee.

Zhaojue Temple

The Zhaojue Temple in Chengdu is sometimes referred to as the first Buddhist temple. True or not, it definitely has a long history and has had an important impact on the Buddhist religion all over the world. In some other Asian countries, Zhaojue Temple is also still one of the most important temples.
