The Communicating China series examines the media and communication originating from China, the shaping and reshaping of these narratives, and how China is represented and received globally. Works in the series explore a wide range of media, including textual, visual, audio-visual and multimedia that create narratives regarding external communication and relationship building and the changing domestic and external drivers behind these practices. They also investigate how different regions of the world receive and communicate about China in their political, socio-economic, and cultural contexts, as well as the platforms, instruments and agents of this communication, including not only state and organisational actors, but also wider cultural movements.
The series invites contributions from scholars across multiple disciplines, including international relations, politics, media and communication studies, journalism, cultural studies, film and screen studies, China studies, and history. It welcomes contributions from early career researchers to established scholars, as well as practitioners and think-tank researchers.
